Are Electronics Distributors Adapting to Developments in E-Commerce?
A
large proportion of the electronics industry's franchised distributors
have adapted their sales strategies to embrace the online revolution.
However, there are still a large percentage of electronics distributors
(authorised and non-authorised) who are failing to evolve and adapt to
change. They are subsequently running the risk of being nullified by
digital-savvy businesses. Developments in e-commerce and digital
marketing have seen a number of catalogue distributors revenues catapult,
as a result of optimising their online presence. Understandably, it is
difficult decision for management to try something new, like pricing up
inventory and setting up an e-comms site to sell all stock online.
However, reasons such as 'too many background movements' and 'listings
are too complicated to set up' are factors that the some of the
industry's distributors have specified when questioned about selling and
advertising their inventory online.
Surely this should be at the forefront of all marketing strategies? It could be said that the broker side of the industry has fallen well behind other sectors in terms of e-commerce developments. Are some of the Marketing bosses in the electronics industry set in their ways with their sales and marketing strategies, such with utilising paper catalogues and 'cold calling' techniques rather than selling and marketing their products online?
Evidently this has to change...We urge bosses in this position to look at the likes of Digi-key and Farnell (authorised), Freelance and Quest (non-authorised), who are adding more and more design tools and content, ultimately driving the visitor to their respective shopping carts for an online purchase. Now the flood gates are opening with both small non-franchised distributors to manufacturers direct re-designing their sites and adding product pages with shopping carts. So where is this all heading? Imagine looking for a part, and within seconds seeing all the stock available from not just the major distributors, but the manufacturers direct and even non-franchised distributors all in one place, all ready and waiting for your prized click to their cart. It dosen't end there, how about if you could see who has the cheapest price?
OEMsecrets has spent the last three years working on a portal ready to accept the complicated data feeds which include millions of images, price breaks, manufacturer codes the list goes on.They then process these huge data feeds and display the exact information the user requires in an instant. What's more is they are providing all this information for to the user for free. Visit www.oemsecrets.com for the electronics industry's first comparison search engine for electronics parts and components.

Searching for electronic components?
Electronic parts and components
Electronics Distributors Online
DigiKey recently dropped their catalogue in favour of on-line sales. This is typical of the developments in the electronics distribution industry. All the major franchised distributors are trying to give the buyer all the tools they need in one easy to use website, even helping them to approve components at the design stage using sites like element14.
Buyers also want and expect more; they want live stock levels, pricing, packaging information like reel sizes etc.
OEMsecrets have listened to the major distributors and thousands of buyers from large OEM's across the globe, and have developed a price comparison website where users can see millions of lines of inventory from all the major distributors with up to date stock levels, pricing etc. OEMsecrets is still developing the site further so the user will eventually be able to tailor the site to suit their specific requirements. Users will be able to send multiple requests to several distributors with just a few simple clicks. They will also be able to price thousands of items in just a few minutes using the BOM Machine, a tool that enables the user to upload their list of items. It then checks the items with the major distributors and returns the results with pricing and stock levels. The user can even price up the whole BOM in one currency even though the distributors may be in other countries.
Recently OEMsecrets have removed the log in and made the site 100% FREE for anyone to use. OEMserets have also split the search results screen so it displays both the franchised and non-franchised inventory separately. There are no distributors in China listed on the website. All inventory is in-stock only, no available stock is advertised on the website.
OEMsecrets is one of the fastest growing component sourcing websites online, with over 15 million line items of electronic components listed on the website. OEMsecrets lists global inventory feeds from the likes of DigiKey, Avnet, Arrow, Farnell, Future, Newark, Online Components etc and posts in-stock inventory from a number of independent distributors. OEMsecrets therefore caters for all active, passive, electro-mechanical and obsolete component requirements.
It's OEMsecrets' intention to give the user all the information they may possibly need on one free and easy to use website in order to find and buy electronic components: www.oemsecrets.com
